Children | James and Isabel appear to have had 6 children together before Isabel's death which probably occurred around 1808 or 1809.

He left the use of his plantation to his sons John and Arthur until his youngest daughter Sarah reached the age of 15 on Oct. 2, 1827 at which time the land was to be sold. James charged John and Arthur with caring for and educating their younger siblings. In addition to John, Arthur and Sarah, the will named children James, Jane and Eleanor. James appointed his brother Edward as his executor.8 |

10 Nov 1828 | On Nov. 10th, 1828, per the conditions of James' will, his 2 tracts of land in Washington County were sold. Sons John and Arthur purchased half of each tract from their siblings.9,10
22 Sep 1832 | Four years later John and his wife Susannah sold their share of each tract to Arthur.11
The sale occurred in advance of the western migration of 5 of James' children. In late 1832 or early 1833 sons James and John, and daughters Jane and Eleanor, all with their respective families, settled in Anderson Co., Kentucky. James' youngest daughter Sarah, who was perhaps 20 at the time, also made the move. |

John Hutton purchased a tract of land in 1795 from George Gamble and then sold it to Leonard in 1797.
