Birth19 Nov 1801 Jane Hutton was born on 19 Nov 1801 in Virginia.2
Marriage She married Thomas McCall, son of John McCall and Martha Orr. They were first cousins on their mother's side.
Childhood  Both families were originally from York (now Adams) County, Pennsylvania and had migrated south into Washington County, Virginia. Thomas and Jane no doubt knew each other from childhood as their fathers both owned land along the waters of Hutton Creek in Washington County. The close ties remained in Virginia as Jane's half-sister Rachel Hutton married Thomas' brother Arthur McCalll.3
Migration  In the early 1830s, Jane and Thomas, accompanied by several of Jane's siblings, left Virginia and moved into Kentucky where they settled in Anderson County.
Land-Sell15 Aug 1832  They were residents of Anderson County by Aug. 1832 when they sold 111 acres back in Washington County, Virginia to Arthur McCall [Thomas' brother] for $1,035. In 1839 they sold Arthur an additional 12 acres in Washington County for $48.4,5
Cens-18401840  Thomas' 1840 census enumeration included 1 male 5-9, 1 male 10-14, 1 male 15-19 and 1 male 40-49 [Thomas]. It also included 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-9, 1 female 10-14, 1 female 15-19, 1 female 20-29 and 1 female 30-39. The household also included 4 slaves. The 20-29 year old female was probably Jane's sister Sarah who made the trip to Kentucky with them.6
Widowed19 Feb 1844  Thomas died in early 1844. Four years later, in the fall of 1848, Jane's two youngest daughters died, followed by her youngest son William in the fall of 1850.
Cens-Sum  Jane remained on the farm in Anderson County where she was enumerated on 4 census records spanning 30 years. Her 1850 household included sons James, John and William and daughter Isabella. Following James' marriage [to Mary Smith in 1858] he assumed the roll of head of the household. By 1870 James was also widowed [wife Mary died in 1863]; he and Jane shared a household that also included 10 year old Bettie Hutton and 8 year old Martha Hutton. Ten years later Jane's widowed daughter Martha had returned home as well.7,8,9,10
Death4 Jun 1888 Jane died on 4 Jun 1888 in Anderson County, Kentucky, at age 86.2
Burial She was buried at Hebron Cemetery in Anderson County, Kentucky.2
