Ward21 Jan 1823  James' father died in 1820. On Jan. 21, 1823 James became the ward of John Hutton.2 [probably his older brother] 
Migration  Several of James' siblings moved west in the early 1830s. They settled in Anderson County, Kentucky. James either accompanied them or made the move earlier.3 [there is an 1830 census entry in Anderson Co. for a James Hutton, but the entry suggests the head of the household was an older male] 
9 Jul 1831  James may have married Rebecca Griffin on July 9th, 1831 in Anderson County.4 
Court Record2 Sep 1843  James was still in Anderson County in the fall of 1843 when he acknowledged an 1828 deed where he and his siblings sold their interest in a tract of land belonging to their father's estate in Virginia.5

It was witnessed by James Meek, Dickson, William and Edward Hatton [sic]. It named children John, Arthur, Sarah, James, Jane and Eleanor but did not clarify that these were his only offspring.
