At Washington Co., Virginia, I James Hutton:

To my two sons John and Arthur all my plantation & mill until my youngest daughter Sarah is 15 from the 2 Oct. 1812 to their sole use if they comply with the conditions that is to say to keep all the rest of my children & school them James to read and write to the rule of three my daughter to read well

I also will my daughter Jane her first choice of all my beds & choice of all the blankets quilts 2 sheets 1 red quilt bedsteds.

I also will my daughter Elenor second bed & furniture as above

I also will my son John one grey horse saddle & complete geers [sic] and Arthur a black mare and as above

Jane my old sorrel mare to come out of her legacy $40 & saddle & bridle not to be charged

Elanor my young sorrel mare to come out of her legacy at $80 also $20 for a saddle no charge

Also to each of my four oldest children to have a cow each oldest first choice & so on to come out of their legacy at $15

To oldest sons all my plows, axes and Mattocks hoes

All my other bedding as also feathers on hand to go to the use of my sons and daughters that is to say each to get their share when they shall choose to leave the place at 17 or 18 yrs old

All my household & kitchen furniture to be equally divided amongst all my children except my cupboard & chest of drawers to be sold

I will my son James $70 to buy a horse not to go out of his legacy to be rec’d at 18 years old

I will that there be a sufficiency of produce left my sons for the consumption of my family until the 15th of August next.

Also desire that all my just debts be paid as also all that is due me to be collected and all the grain in the ground to go to the use of my family

My son Arthur to be at liberty to buy any article at sale & not to be bound to security but to come out of his legacy.

Also desire my plantation, mill & all its appurtenances to be sold at the expiration of the 15 years from 1812 or at 1827 Oct. 2

Will and bequeath that all the money arising from the sale of my lands to be divided amongst my children in the following way to wit: to each of my sons double to each daughter and all my other property to be sold and equally divided amongst my children.
