Birthbetween 1784 and 1790 David Beattie was probably born between 1784 and 1790.3,4
Devisee30 Jul 1805  David's father wrote his will in 1805, almost nine years before his death. He left David a Negro girl named Jenny, and half of his plantation (the other half went to David's brother Armstrong), farming utensils and implements of husbandry.1
Marriage9 Nov 1809 David and Nancy Clark, daughter of James Clark and Isabella Breckenridge, were married by Rev. Edward Crawford on 9 Nov 1809 in Washington County, Virginia.5,6
Three years later David's sister Mary Beattie married Nancy's brother John Clark.

Court RecordOct 1820 In October 1820 David was named in a lawsuit brought by his brother James against David and his sister Mary Clark after the death of their mother Mary Beattie. James lost the lawsuit [see link below for more information].7
Court RecordFeb 1822  In February 1822 David and John Clark signed a document stating that they had received $33.70 from Thomas Edmiston which represented their cost in defending themselves in the lawsuit. The document preserved their signatures (see below).8
Cens-18301830  David was recorded in 1830 in Washington County with the following unnamed members of his household: 1 male (10-15), 2 males 15-20), 1 male (40-50) [probably David], 1 male (50-60); 1 female (under 5), 1 female (5-10), 3 females (10-15), 1 female (15-20) and 1 female (40-50). This record is consistent with the presence of David and Nancy with sons Armstrong, John and James as well as an unidentified 50-60 year old male. The younger females are consistent with the ages of daughters Elizabeth, Margaret, Ellen, Isabella and Mary, as well as an additional 10-15 year old female.9
Guardian16 Jun 1830 David was named guardian of his niece, Henrietta Beattie [daughter of his deceased brother James] on 16 Jun 1830.10
Henrietta may have represented the additional unidentified female in David's household on the 1830 census.
Land-Sell21 Aug 1843  In the summer and early fall of 1843 David and Nancy sold their land in Washington County. William B. Byars purchased 335 acres for $5,000. This tract consisted of the land David inherited from his father David Beattie, as well as a porition of the acreage originally inherited by David's brother Armstrong. Ten acres, also originally part of the David Beattie Sr. land, was purchased by John Clark for $90.11
Migrationcirca 1844 David and Nancy then left Virginia and migrated to Andrew County, Missouri. Six of their children (the youngest was abt 16) accompanied them.12
Land  In Andrew County David owned the southwest quarters of sections 31 and 32 in township 60N, Range 34W. He purchased the tracts in June and July of 1846 at a cost of $1.25 per acre.13,14
1846  This land was part of Platte township until Empire township was created in 1872.
Land1847  David may have purchased an additional 90 acres in section 27 in June 1847. However this tract was not mentioned in David's will and may have been purchased by David S. Beatie, a cousin who also settled in Andrew County at an early date.15
Will5 Nov 1847 David wrote a will dated 5 Nov. 1847 in Andrew County. It was probated in court on November 29th. He left his land in Sections 31 and 32 in Andrew County to be divided between his sons John Breckenrdge Beattie and Armstrong Beattie. In return they were to care for his wife Nancy. David also stated that he had money coming "from this country" and from Virginia amounting to about $1,300. It was to be divided between his three daughters: Elenor Ashley, Isabel Allen and Elizabeth Baty. James named Allen Ashley and William Allen as his executors.16
DeathNov 1847 David died in Nov 1847 in Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri. A compiled family genealogy states that he died on April 5, 1847, however he did not write his will until November 1847.17,18
Burial He was buried at Colburn Cemetery in Andrew County.19
This may be the cemetery now known as Hobson Cemetery.20,21

  3. [S16] David was under 21 when his father wrote his will in 1805, suggesting he was born after 1784. The 1830 and 1840 census records do not identify David by age category but it is likely he was the 40-50 year old male in 1830 and the 50-60 year old male in 1840, suggesting an approximate birth range of 1780-1790; combining the 2 records suggests a birth range of 1784-1790.
