Birth29 Jul 1810 James Beattie was born on 29 Jul 1810 in Virginia.3 
Marriage He married Ann Scott.4 
Migration  James's parents migrated from Washington County, Virginia to Andrew County, Missouri in the mid 1840s. James and Ann also made the move, along with their 3 young children. However initially they settled further south in Boone County, Missouri.5 
Migration  James's father died in 1847; by 1851 James and Ann had relocated to Andrew County where their 4th child was born that September. 
Cens-186019 Jul 1860  The family was enumerated in Platte township (northeast of Savanna) in the summer of 1860. James owned real estate valued at just under $2,000 and person property of $1,350. Besides 5 Beattie children, James and Ann's household included 20 year old Marion Ashley.6 
Death19 Jul 1877 James died on 19 Jul 1877 in Andrew County, Missouri, at age 66.3 
Burial He was buried at Whitesville Cemetery in Andrew County, Missouri.3 

Research Comment:

James's younger sister Ellen Beattie married Allen Ashley [possibly a widower?] in 1845 in Andrew County. He died a few years later. Ellen was enumerated in Andrew County in 1850 with 3 children: Marion (9), Ellen (7), and Thomas (4). I have not located Ellen or the two younger children in 1860; Marion, as noted above, was enumerated with James and Ann.7
