Marriage1 Jan 1856 He married Sarah Isabella Moffett, daughter of Garner Moffett and Mary Jane Beaty Davis, on 1 Jan 1856 in Carroll County, Illinois.4,5 
  The winter following their marriage Sarah and Emanuel traveled east for the winter. Their plans included a stop in Washington DC to watch the inauguration of President James Buchanan [Wed. March 4, 1857].6 
Cens-18601860  Emanuel and Sarah spent the next few years farming in Freedom township (Carroll Co.).7 
  However, they later moved into the community of Lanark. There they also provided a home for Harriett Shirk, the daughter of Sarah's cousin, Sarah (Moffett) Shirk.8,9 
Occupation The 1870 census listed Emanuel's occupation as a "patent right dealer". A later county history stated that he manufacturered Stover Wind Pumps and barbs for fence wire.3,8 
  Emanuel and his brother Daniel invented and manufactured the Stover Wind Engine. The engine, powered by the wind mill, could be attached to grinders for grinding grain or to pumps located in springs or wells. 
Death24 Apr 1890 Emanuel died of heart failure on 24 Apr 1890 in Carroll County, Illinois, at age 62.1,10,11 
Burial He was buried at Lanark Cemetery in Carroll County, Illinois.1
