Childhood  Harriett's mother died the day before Harriett's second birthday. Her father died 3 years later leaving Harriett and her 5 surviving siblings without either parent. Harriet went to live with Sarah Isabella (Moffett) Stover who was her mother's first cousin and whose own daughter had died young.3 
  Following the marriage of Harriett's older sister Ella May (Nellie) to John Rinewalt, Harriett lived with them in Mt. Carroll. She also attended Shimer College in Mt. Carroll.1 
Cens-19001900  At the turn of the century Harriett was recorded living with John and Nellie. She was employed as a school teacher.4 
Marriage She married Rodney Wells. 
Cens-192014 Jan 1920  Harriett and Rodney established their home in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa, where Rodney worked as editor of the local newspaper.5 
  Harriett's uncle James L. Moffet had settled in Marshalltown as early as 1871.
