Birth2 Jul 1817 William C. P. Buchanan was born on 2 Jul 1817 in Smyth County, Virginia.4 
Marriage23 May 1840 He married Julia Brown on 23 May 1840 in Smyth County, Virginia.1 
Migration William and Julia appear to have left Virginia shortly after their marriage as their eldest child was born in Missouri. 
Cens-18501850  The couple lived in Howard County, Missouri by 1850 at which time they were recorded on that years federal census. Besides William (enumerated as W.C.P. Buckhanen) and Julia, there were three children living with them: Mary J., age 9, John A., age 6 and L___, also age 6.5 
Death30 Sep 1852 William died on 30 Sep 1852 at age 35.6 
Burial He was buried at Arnold Jackman Cemetery in Howard County, Missouri.6 
Probate Recd6 Oct 1852 On 6 Oct 1852 letters of administration in the estate of William C. P. Buchanan were granted to Mark Jackman. He posted a bond in the amount of $1,000 in Howard County court.7 
Probate RecdNov 1853  The following year Mark was ordered to pay William's widow the balance of the $200 owed her as part of her dower from the sale of William's land.8 
Migration In Nov. 1854 William's son also died and shortly afterwards his widow and two daughters moved to Wayne County, Illinois. 
  William's father, writing his will in 1858 in Virginia, remembered his two granddaughters in Illinois, "daughters of his son William."2 

Research Comment:

John Blakemore, in his widely cited Buchanan, A Genealogical History states that Susan F. Buchanan who married Thomas M. Buchanan was the daughter of the above William C.P. Buchanan.9
However, there is no mention of a daughter Susan in any of the probate records referencing William's heirs and Susan is well established by other records as the daughter of William C.P. Buchanan's aunt and uncle, William Buchanan and Margaret Ryburn.
