Enumeration includes: W.C.P. Buckhanen, 32, b. VA, farmer, owns $2,000 real estate; Julia 30, b. VA; Mary J., 9, b. MO; John A., 6, b. MO; L__y, 6, b. MO (female).
  2. [S1094] Karen Carmichael Boggs and Louise Muir Coutts, Howard County Cemetery Records, p. 293. Stone reported to read: Alexander Buchanan b. 11-3-1841, d. 11-7-1854; it is likely John's year of birth was misread since he was 6 on the 1850 census.
  3. [S16] John Alexander and his sister Margaret Buchanan Hale may have been twins. They are both age 6 on the 1850 census and they are both known to have been born in November. Margaret's age on most census records suggests she was born in 1844 but she provided an 1845 year on the 1900 census. If that is correct, and if she and John were twins, then his year of birth would also have been 1845. Note that Margaret and John's sister, Mary Jane Buchanan Durell, had twins, as did Mary Jane's son William and Margaret's daughter, Julia.
