Charles and Mary both died as a result of a tragic accident. The couple grew vegetables on their farm in Mesquite and delivered them by horse and wagon to several hotels in nearby Dallas. On the morning of July 19, 1911 they happened upon a street in Dallas where road work was underway. As they passed by, a steam boiler blew up, killing Charles instantly. Mary lingered until the following day.6 | ||
Mary's nephew George Rutherford had also settled in Dallas County. His first son was born in Mesquite in 1897. |
