Birth20 Oct 1822 Margaret Edmiston Davis was born on 20 Oct 1822 in Virginia.1 
Migration1842 At the age of twenty Margaret, with her widowed mother and several siblings, left Virginia for Carroll County, Illinois. Margaret's older sister Mary Jane, and her husband Garner Moffett, had settled there some years earlier. 
Marriage2 Oct 1845 She married William Henry Hawk, son of Andrew Hawk and Mary Myers, on 2 Oct 1845 in Carroll County.3 
  William's first wife was Garner Moffett's sister Hannah.4 
Cens-Sum  William and Margaret raised William's 3 sons from his first marriage and added 11 children of their own, 4 of whom died young. William's oldest son, Robert M.A. Hawk, became a US Congressman but died in 1882 while still in office.

William appears to have been a successful farmer, reporting land valued at over $14,000 on the 1860 Carroll County census. The couple lived in Freedom Township not far from Margaret's sisters Mary J.B. Moffett and Ann Elizabeth Moffett.5,6,7,8 
Death8 Jan 1885 Margaret died of apoplexy on 8 Jan 1885 at age 62.9,10 
Burial17 Jul 1917 She was reinterred with her husband William and 4 of their children in Lanark Cemetery, Carroll County, Illinois, on 17 Jul 1917. They had been previously buried in Wolfe Cemetery.11
