b. between 1780 and 1790, d. before 23 September 1843
Birth | between 1780 and 1790 | Elizabeth Dunn was born between 1780 and 1790 based on her presumed entry on the 1830 (female 40-49) and 1840 (female 50-59) census records. However the range can be narrowed further by the fact that she gave birth to daughter Mary in 1833. Therefore it is more likely she was born abt 1789 which would still have made her abt 44 at Mary's birth.2,3 |
Marriage | 3 Jun 1813 | She married William Shaw Logan, son of James Logan and Barbara (?), on 3 Jun 1813 in Washington County, Virginia.4 |
Devisee | 14 Jan 1819 | Elizabeth's father, William Dunn, wrote his will in January of 1819. He left his "daughter Elizabeth Logan, wife of William S. Logan" a share in his lands, but restricted her to one of the Negroes, one horse and saddle, and none of the farm stock. Perhaps since she was married, she had already received her share. Her father also appointed her husband, William Logan, as one of his executors.1 |
Cens-1820 | 7 Aug 1820 | William was recorded on the 1820 census for Washington County. He would have been represented by the tally mark in the male 26-44 column. Also indicated was a 26-44 year old female and 3 boys under the age of 10.5 |
Cens-1830 | 1 Jun 1830 | By 1830 2 young females had joined the household.2 |
Cens-1840 | 1 Jun 1840 | The 1840 census entry for William suggests his household included himself and Elizabeth, their youngest son Jeptha [20-29 yr old male] and their 3 daughters. However, the presence of a 30-39 year old female and 2 males 15-19 suggests other family members [widow and sons?] may have shared the home.3 |
| | It is possible the 30-39 year old woman represented Elizabeth's widowed sister Jane Moffett whose husband died in 1834. The 1850 census, enumerated following the death of both William and Elizabeth, recorded their son Jeptha Logan as the head of a household that included his younger sisters as well as Jane Moffett. |
Death | before 23 Sep 1843 | Elizabeth died before 23 Sep 1843 at which time her children sold Elizabeth's 1/6th share of the land devised to her in the 1819 will of her father, William Dunn. Elizabeth was referred to as deceased in the 1843 deed.6 |
| | The deed named Elizabeth's children as William D., James S., Jeptha N., Elizabeth Jane, Lydia and Mary Logan. Three of Elizabeth's siblings also sold their 1/6th interest in the land. They included (with spouses): Willam Dunn and Catherine, wife; Caleb Logan and Mary, wife; and Samuel Dunn and Jane, wife. The land was sold to Jonas Smyth.6 |
