Birth14 Mar 1814 William Dunn Logan was born on 14 Mar 1814 in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Legatee14 Jan 1819  William's grandfather, William Dunn, remembered his young namesake when he wrote his will in the winter of 1819, and bequeathed him the sum of $20.00, to be paid when William turned twenty-one.4 
Executor12 Mar 1841  William's aunt, Rebecca Dunn [sister to William's mother Elizabeth] wrote her will in Washington County in the spring of 1841. She left bequests to various family members and named William as her executor.5 
Land-Sell23 Sep 1843 On 23 Sep 1843 William and his siblings sold Jonas Smyth their 1/6 interest in the land in Washington County left to their mother Elizabeth Logan in the 1819 will of her father William Dunn. (William Logan's siblings were named as James S., Jeptha N., Elizabeth Jane, Lydia and Mary).6

  It is not clear if Ellen's maiden name was Poole or Wise. 
Migration The young couple settled in Estill County, Kentucky, where they were recorded with their growing family on both the 1850 and 1860 census enumerations. In 1860 William's farm was valued at $1,200 and he owned personal property worth $2,500. Eight children were also enumerated, ranging in age from 17 year old William to baby Robert. William's birthplace was indicated as Virginia but Ellen and the children were indicated as having been born in Kentucky.7,8 
Cens-187020 Jul 1870  In 1870 William and Ellen were enumerated in adjacent Powell County [formed in 1852 from Estill and other counties] where William owned real estate valued at $1,500 and personal property valued at $1,600. Eleven of William and Ellen's 12 children were enumerated with them, including 3 year old twins Rosanna and Rosetta. This census listed William, Ellen, and their two eldest children as having been born in Virginia.9 
Deathcirca 1875 William died circa 1875 in Stanton, Powell County, Kentucky.1 
Burial He was buried at Logan Cemetery where his grave is marked by a natural stone.1 
  Following William's death Ellen continued to run the family farm with the help of her sons William [recorded as "Peter" in 1880], John, Franklin, Robert and Jefferson.10
