Baptism6 Jun 1852 She was baptized on 6 Jun 1852 in Paperville Presbyterian Church, Sullivan County, Tennessee.4 
Childhood Sarah grew to adulthood in Washington County, Virginia, although the family's farm actually straddled the Tennessee state line. She watched two of her older brothers leave to fight in the Civil War and in 1864 lost her father to the same cause. 
Ward24 Oct 1864  Two weeks after her father's death David O. King was appointed guardian to Sarah and her siblings. David was the children's first cousin, once removed.5 
Ward27 May 1870  Then in May, 1870 L. O. Byers was apppointed guardian of Sarah and her younger sister Mary.6 
Marriage7 May 1875 She married Robert Rutherford, son of Joseph Rutherford, on 7 May 1875 in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Deathbefore 1880 Sarah probably died before 1880 as her husband listed himself as widowed on that years census.7 
Probate Recd23 Jun 1890  Sarah's estate was not settled until 1890 at which time R.R. Hughes as her administrator reported an accounting that included a payment of $127.16 to the heirs of Sally J.M. Rutherford. A credit dated the same day reflected a payment of $148.63 from a note on W.J. Ryburn.8
