Birth22 Mar 1802 Margaret Ryburn was born on 22 Mar 1802.3 
Legatee22 Jul 1812 Margaret was referred to as "my little daughter Peggy" by her father when he wrote his will just before his death in 1812. He bequeathed her a bed and bed furniture, a horse, a saddle and bridle and a cow, all of which she was to receive when she turned eighteen. William also left money for her to receive six months schooling.1 
Ward16 Jan 1821  John Buchanan was named Margaret's guardian on January 16, 1821, just prior to her marriage to John's brother William.4 
Marriage20 Jan 1821 She and William Buchanan, son of John Buchanan and Ann Ryburn,were married by Rev. Alexander McEwen on 20 Jan 1821.5,6 
Migration William and Margaret spent the majority of their married lives in southwest Virginia, but in the early 1840s they removed to Missouri with their children. 
  It appears they settled first in Howard County as daughter Eliza was born there in 1843. Other family members were already living in Howard County. 
Land-Buybefore 1858  By 1858 William had purchased two tracts of land totaling about 160 acres in Scotland County (Township 65, Range 13). William Clarkson [married to Mary Ann Buchanan, William's daughter] owned an adjoining parcel. And John H. Clarkson owned a parcel on the other side of William.7 
Cens-186013 Jun 1860  There they were enumerated in 1860 with Susan F., age 28 and Eliza, age sixteen. Residing in the same household was their widowed son Mathew and his two children.8 
Death15 May 1862 Margaret died on 15 May 1862 in Scotland County, Missouri, at age 60.3
