 Early Southwest Virginia Families incorrectly states that Martha Harvey Clark married Mathew Robert Buchanan CLARK. 
Court Record6 May 1858 On 6 May 1858 John and Mary Clark [Martha's parents] entered into an agreement with their sons James and John whereby they deeded them the family farm with the stipulation the men were to pay certain legacies to their siblings including $300 to John and Mary's daughter Martha H. Ryburn. In keeping with that agreement, the settlement account, recorded in Washington County court in 1877, lists a payment of $300 to Mathew R. Ryburn.3,7 
Cens-18601860 Mathew and Martha were recorded farming in Smyth County, Virginia, when the 1860 census was taken. Also enumerated with them were John C. age 1, Reuben Henderson, age 14 and Charity Sanders, age 12. Reuben was probably the son of Mathew's deceased sister, Minerva, although her son was recorded as Mathew Henderson on the 1850 census.8 
Cens-18802 Jun 1880 By 1880 Mathew and Martha's family had grown to include sons John, age 21 and David, age 12, as well as daughters Lillie, age 17, Nellie, age 9 and Rose, age 7.9 
Death13 Oct 1898 Martha died on 13 Oct 1898 at age 70.4 
Burial She was buried at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Smyth County, Virginia.4
