Marriage1 Sep 1835 He married Lydia Ann Davis, daughter of James Davis and Nancy Smith, on 1 Sep 1835 in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Guardian26 Mar 1844  On March 26th Peter was named guardian of his 3 children: Nancy Catherine, William Alexander and Marian.4 
  This may have coincided with their mother's death. 
Marriagebefore 13 Dec 1846 He married Nancy Catherine Davis, daughter of John Davis and Catherine Shetters, before 13 Dec 1846.5 
  Nancy was Lydia's cousin.  
Cens-185020 Sep 1850  Peter and Nancy were enumerated in 1850 on the first census to list all members of the household by name. In addition to Peter (40) and Nancy (26) the household included William (11), Virginia (4) and Mary (1).6 
  Peter's eldest daughter from his first marriage, Nancy Catherine, lived with Sarah and Francis Davis [Lydia's sister and her husband] who spent time in Tennessee, Texas and Arkansas. Peter's second daughter, Marian, lived with his mother in Washington County. 
  Peter and Nancy had 3 more children after 1850: John, Jonathan and Sarah Jane. However in the late summer of 1854 an outbreak of flux reached the family. Jonathan died on August 29th at 22 months of age. Six year old Virginia died Sept. 1st. 
Death22 Jun 1856 Peter died of consumption on 22 Jun 1856 in Washington County.1 
Land  At the time he lived on land on Reedy Creek Road that the family had purchased from Abram Bradley.2 
Will-Recd28 Jul 1856 Peter's will was recorded on 28 Jul 1856 in Washington County, Virginia, He left Catherine all of his land with the exception of 100 acres to be laid off the lower end for his son William Alexander. Peter's oldest daughter, Nancy Catherine, who was living in Texas, received $1.00. The will also mentioned his other children: Marian, Polly F., Sally J. and John Hanby (the last three being the youngest).7
