Nancy Catherine Hanby

FatherPeter S. Hanby1 b. abt 1804, d. 22 Jun 1856
MotherLydia Ann Davis2 d. abt 1844
Moth-Death  Catherine, as she appears to have been known, was only 6 or 7 when her mother died. Catherine's father married a cousin of Catherine's mother as his second wife (also named Nancy Catherine), but the younger Catherine does not appear to have been part of their household.
Cens-18508 Oct 1850  Instead she made her home with her mother's sister Sarah Davis and her husband Francis Davis. In 1850 they resided in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Sarah and Francis were first cousins, and Catherine was related to both of them.3
Migration  In the early 1850s the family moved on to Texas where they lived in 1856 when Catherine's father wrote his will back in Virginia. He left "Nancy Catherine" $1 and commented that she was living in Texas. However Francis and Sarah did not remain in Texas more than a few years. By late 1859 they had had settled in Sebastian County, Arkansas where Sarah died in Jan. 1860.1
Cens-18601860  A few months later "Frank" was enumerated on the 1860 census for Sebastian County with 7 children ranging in age from Mary (14) to Margaret (8 months). Twenty year old Catherine Hanby was still part of the household, no doubt helping care for the younger children.4
