Birth2 Mar 1876 Hay Theodore Clark was born on 2 Mar 1876 near Petersburg in Lincoln County, Tennessee.3
Marriage He married Linna Williams, daughter of W.A. Williams and Sara Wynne.4
Linna was born 17 Mar 1887 in Greenville (Hunt County), Texas. The couple lived in Texas following their marriage.5
Occupation Hay appears to have been a very successful business man. He was described on various records as a cotton exporter and an investment broker.
The export business necessitated regular trips to Europe. Immigration records show Hay sailing from Cherbourg in Jul 1911 on the Kronprinz Wilhem, from Liverpool to New York in July 1912 on the Baltic and from Liverpool to New York in June 1913 on the Cedric. The crossing took about 2 weeks.6
28 May 1919  Hay applied for a US passport on May 28th, 1919 in Dallas, Texas. He listed Dallas as his permanent residence and stated that he was a cotton exporter. At the time of the application he intended to sail on the Aquitania on June 28th for the purpose of selling cotton in England, France and Belgium. The application described Hay as 5' 10 1/2" tall, with light hair, grey eyes and a ruddy complexion. It also stated that he had a double chin and a straight and broad nose. A letter accompanying the application, written by the Vice President of City National Bank of Dallas, stated that Hay was the proprietor of H.T. Hay & Co. of Dallas.1
Cens-19201920  The 1920 census enumerated Hay and Linna residing in the Highland Park section of Dallas with their two children: 11 year old William and 9 year old Sarah.7
In the 1920s Linna accompanied Hay on his European trips. The crossing from Liverpool to New York, on ships such as the Olympic, had been shortened to as few as 7 days.8
Cens-19305 Apr 1930 The couple then spent several years residing in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County, California. Their home, at 600 Linden Drive, was valued at $40,000 in 1930. A butler, cook and servant staffed the home.9
In the early 1940s the couple enjoyed winter trips to Hawaii, traveling as first class passengers on the SS Luline. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Dec. 1941 the Lurline was requisitioned by the US Government as a troopship.10,11
Death28 May 1952 Hay died on 28 May 1952 in Dallas, Texas, at age 76.3
Burial30 May 1952 He was buried on 30 May 1952 at Hillcrest Mausoleum in Dallas, Texas.3
