Marriage11 May 1896 He married Margaret A. Glenn, daughter of William Snodgrass Glenn and Martha Ann Duff, on 11 May 1896 in Washington County.5 
  Hugh's brother James had married Maggie's sister Mollie some years earlier. 
Cens-Sum Following their marriage Hugh and Margaret made their home in the Abingdon district of Washington County with Margaret's extended family. In 1900 the household included Robert Glenn (uncle), Martha Glenn (widowed mother), Robert Glenn (brother), and Sallie Harris with her husband and 2 children (Sallie was the daughter of Margaret's deceased sister Sally Glenn Dunlap).

Ten years later, following the death of Robert Glenn, Hugh assumed the role of head of the household. In both 1900 and 1910 his occupation was listed as "farmer."2,6 
DeviseeAug 1897  Hugh's father died in 1897. His will left Hugh 3 tracts of land described as the Buchanan tract (73 acres), the Wilkes tract (38 acres) and the Clark tract (50 acres).3 
Death17 Jan 1927 Hugh died on 17 Jan 1927 at age 65.4 
Burial He was buried at Bethel Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.4
