Birth4 Dec 1854 Rev. John Milton Maiden was born on 4 Dec 1854 in Washington County, Virginia.5,6,7 
Education John attended Emory and Henry College for 3 years and then began teaching in the public schools of the area. He was also licensed to preach by the Methodist Church. Later in life he became a full time minister serving various churches in Virginia and nearby Tennessee.8 
Marriage22 Mar 1883 He married Sarah Jane Grubb, daughter of Jacob Grubb and Louisiana Carter, on 22 Mar 1883 in Washington County, Virginia.2 
Residence For a period John and Sarah lived near John's parents on Maiden Creek. 
Cens-19002 Jun 1900 At the time of the 1900 census they lived in Tazewell County, Virginia, where John was a preacher. S[arah] J[ane] at age 45 was listed as the mother of 8 children, 6 of whom were living. All 6 were enumerated living at home with their parents.9 
  The 2 children who were deceased died in the early 1890s, both at about 3 months of age. 
1908  Poor health forced John to retire in 1908 at which time the couple returned to Washington County where they built a house on Rich Valley Rd.8 
Cens-191019 Apr 1910  There three of their adult children (Marvin, Roxie and Mary) found employment as teachers at local schools.10 
Death17 Apr 1918 John died from chronic kidney disease on 17 Apr 1918 at Glenford in Washington County at age 63.5,7,11 
Burial He was buried at Emory Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.5
