Ann Elizabeth Gose1

b. 18 December 1838 or 1839, d. 7 May 1928
Birth18 Dec 1838 or 1839 Ann Elizabeth Gose was born on 18 Dec. 1838 or in 1839 in Wythe County, Virginia.2,3,1
Marriage1 Jul 1858 She married William Talbert Horne, son of Isaac James Horne and Eliza Talbert, on 1 Jul 1858 in Smyth County, Virginia.4,1
William and Ann lived at the Old Stagecoach Inn in Washington County with William's parents. There they raised 4 daughters and 1 son. William died in Jan. 1873 at the age of 39, leaving his parents and Eliza to raise the children and run the inn. By 1877 William's parents were also deceased.5,6
Court Record4 May 1882  In the fall of 1881 Ann's daughter Mary Virginia married Joseph Davis Williams. The following year a suit was filed in Chancery court to divide the land Ann's children inherited as Isaac Horne's only heirs. Ann's son William, then 10 years old, received 45 acres to include the house and other buildings (kitchen, outhouses, granary, stables, spring-house) on the public road.7
Ann continued to live at the inn with William. Daughter Bettie (Ann Elizabeth), who did not marry, had received an adjacent 83 acres in the division of land. She also lived with William. The deed outlining the division between William and his sisters was not recorded until 1911, suggesting the 1882 lawsuit had been largely a formality.3,8,9
Death7 May 1928 Ann died on 7 May 1928 in Washington County, Virginia.1
Burial She was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.2
