On December 1, 1772, Fincastle Co. Virginia was established, comprising all of what is now the present state of Kentucky and a small southwest portion of present day Virginia. On December 31, 1776 Fincastle Co. ceased to exist as its own entity and the territory was divided into three counties: Kentucky, Montgomery and Washington. These counties were all a part of what was then Virginia although Kentucky Co. would later be further subdivided and eventually become a state of its own. This book abstracts all the existing records of early day Fincastle and Kentucky counties.
