The Beaty Family

My Grand Mothers maiden name was Jane Beaty married Robert Buchanon of Augusta County Va. he died and she afterward married grandfathe[r] Ryburn, she only had one child by Buchanon, Margarett Buchanon

Great, Grand, father Beaty was one of the first setlers in Washington County Va, came there in an early day, and toock up a large track of the best lands in the settement enough to give his children a nice farm a piece. They had 7 children 6 [six added above line] lived to be grown [Mothers Aunts and Uncles added in margin] David and William, Nancy, Sarah, Jane, Mary.) David married Mary Beaty a full cosin of his. William married Mary Aleson, Nancy married James Dysart, Sarah, James Logan. Mary, married David Soyars[,] Jane, married Mathew Ryburn, [her second husband added in right margin]

I can remember of seeing old Uncle Billy Beaty (as he was always called) he died since I was married lived to be a very old man

somthing over 90 yeare old he had a large family lived and died on his fathers old home, some of them I new vary well, they were mothers full cousins only second cousins of mine, several of the boys moved to Missouria before I was married and some of the girls did also, the Beaty family are Irish decent, a good family of people well respected and good livers generally and industrious (these all lived in the Glade Spring Neighbourhood

The Buchanon family

There were several familys of Buchanons but they were not all connected, the same name but not related, mother knows nothing of the old stock of Buchons only old Uncle Johnny that married her only Aunt on her fathers side, he married, Ann Ryburn grandfather Ryburns only sister, they had a large family of children 11 in number, Mathew, Margaret, John, Mary, William, James, Ann, Robert, Jane, Rosanna, and Ryburn.

Three of the Boys are living yet the last account we had of them, Mathew, James and

Robert, and one or two of the girls the boys are quite old, Mathew over 90 years old still liveing on there fathers old farme, liveing in the same house that there father built, Mathew, James, and Robert, never married they were good farmers and lived well, untill there mother died and two sisters (that never married the sisters died and left the boys alone, but they have had some of there neices to keep house for them most of the time. rather belonged to the family not to marry

one of mothers sisters married a Buchanon but no blood relation, Mother thinks that Grand Mothers first husband, and Uncle Johnny were brothers, you will see by looking over this that I have written, that the names Buchanen, Beaty are often mention

We have just heard through an Abingdon paper of the marriage of Sarah A. Buchanon marred on the 9th Feb. 1870. She must be over 40 years Married John Hagy of Abingdon.

Sarah Davis, my Deare mother is still liveing and liveing withe me, her age being 81 the 29th day of last Dec, her and 5 of her children liveing in Carroll County Illinois, haveing moved from Va some 25 or 6 years ago. 4 girls and one boy, her youngest now in Iowa, married and has a large family, lived in this county untill last Oct. this was written 24th day of February 1870 by her oldest daughter with whom she is livein, she is quite smart and can read and sew and knit as well as she ever did and can do a great many other things.
