Birth19 Oct 1787 William Buchanan was born on 19 Oct 1787.3 
Marriage20 Jan 1821 He and Margaret Ryburn, daughter of William Ryburn and Mary (?),were married by Rev. Alexander McEwen on 20 Jan 1821.4,5 
Migration William and Margaret spent the majority of their married lives in southwest Virginia, but in the early 1840s they removed to Missouri with their children. 
  It appears they settled first in Howard County as daughter Eliza was born there in 1843. Other family members were already living in Howard County. 
Land-Buybefore 1858  By 1858 William had purchased two tracts of land totaling about 160 acres in Scotland County (Township 65, Range 13). William Clarkson [married to Mary Ann Buchanan, William's daughter] owned an adjoining parcel. And John H. Clarkson owned a parcel on the other side of William.6 
Cens-186013 Jun 1860  There he was enumerated in 1860 at age 75 with Margaret , age fifty-eight. Also living at home was Susan F., age 28 and Eliza, age sixteen. Residing in the same household was their widowed son Mathew and his two children.7 
Death9 Aug 1865 William died on 9 Aug 1865 in Scotland County, Missouri, at age 77.3

  1. [S10] "Journal of Mary Jane Beaty (Davis) Moffett", p. 2. Mary Jane Beaty Davis Moffett stated in her journal that Ann and John Buchanan "had a large family of children, 11 in number." She provided the following names: Mathew, Margaret, John, Mary, William, James, Ann, Robert, Jane, Rosanna, and Ryburn.

Buchanan as witnesses, was recorded on 15 March 1825 on the oath of Joseph Miller. James Henderson was deceased; Sons John and Mathew Buchanan took oath of executors.
