Cens-18501850 The 1850 census for Washington County, Virginia recorded Ann and Samuel with two of their children, William, age 25, and Jane, age 21, still at home. Samuel owned land valued at $5,000.7 
Widowed5 Nov 1853  Samuel's death three years later left Ann a widow at age sixty-one.8 
Cens-18601860  She continued to make her home with her children William and Jane, neither of whom had married in the intervening years. However, Ann's son Andrew had recently remarried, and Ann was now providing a home for Andrew's son William, whose mother had died following his birth. The 1860 census reported that Ann owned real estate worth $4,000 and personal property valued at $4,000.9 
Cens-1860- Slave14 Aug 1860  This most likely reflected the 5 slaves who were part of the household. They included 3 males and 2 females who ranged in age from 18 to 55.10 
Death10 Mar 1870 Ann died of cancer on 10 Mar 1870 at age 78.5,11
