Birth30 Nov 1827 Theophilus Moffett was born on 30 Nov 1827 on the old Moffett homestead north of Rushville in Rush County, Indiana.2,3 
Marriage1855 He married Gabriella Maxwell, daughter of Edward Russell Maxwell and Jane Tilford, in 1855. 
  Theophilus's sister Isabella married Gabriella's brother John Maxwell.  
BusinessJun 1857  In Jun 1857 Theophilus and his brother, Estel built a large woolen mill in Rush County.4 
Cens-Sum  Theophilus and Gabriella spent their married lives in the community of Rushville, in a house on N. Perkins St.. There they raised 6 children, 3 of whom did not outlive their parents. The family appeared to live comfortably. In 1870 Theophilus's real estate was valued at $30,000 and his personal property at $32,000. A servant lived with the family. Theophilus and Gabriella also provided a home for his widowed mother Isabella.5,6 
Death4 Dec 1899 Theophilus died of bilious congestive fever on 4 Dec 1899 at his home on Perkins St. in Rushville at age 72.7,8 
Burial He was buried at East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.7 
Obituary  His obituary describes Theophilus as good-hearted man who had many friends.3
