Cens-191020 Apr 1910  In 1910 Clay was enumerated in the home of his brother Burts in Hood County. Both men were stock farmers. The brothers' widowed mother Virginia was also part of the household.3 
Marriage22 Jul 1914 He married Mary Amanda Walley on 22 Jul 1914.5 
  Clay was 40 and Mary was 26.6  
Cens-192024 Jan 1920 Following their marriage Clay and Mary remained in Hood County. They lived in the community of Granbury where they were recorded on the 1920 census. "H. Clay" worked as the county tax assessor.7 
Cens-193010 Apr 1930  By 1930 Clay had returned to selling livestock; his wife Mary was employed giving music lessons. The family rented a home in Granbury for $8 a month; it was not a farm. There were also 2 children in the home that year: H. Clay Jr. (11) and Flora (8).6 
Death25 Nov 1969 Clay died on 25 Nov 1969 at Granbury in Hood County, Texas at age 94.2 
Burial He was buried at Granbury Cemetery in Hood County, Texas.8
