Moth-Death2 Jan 1896  Edwin was about 14 years old when his mother died on 2 Jan 1896. 
Cens-19008 Jun 1900  Edwin's father remarried a few years later. In 1900 Edwin was enumerated living with his father and stepmother in the Goodson District of Washington County, Virginia.2,5 
Marriagecirca 1903 He married Mary Lee Williams circa 1903.6 
Cens-191026 Apr 1910  In 1910 Edwin was again recorded living with his father and stepmother. His maternal grandmother, Fannie Teeter, was also present. Edwin's occupation was listed as "operator for railroad". Although he was recorded as married his wife Mary was not enumerated in the household. Instead, she was recorded in the household of her father in Washington County, Tennessee, along with the couple's 3 children.7 
  Edwin and Mary may have both lived in Washington County, Tennessee after their marriage, as their first 3 children are reported to have been born there. 
Milit-Reg12 Sep 1918 On 12 Sep 1918 Edwin registered for the World War I draft. He stated that his residence was Wallace, Washington County, Virginia and that he was employed as a telegrapher for the N. and W. Railway. The registrar's report stated that he was of medium height, and of stout build with brown eyes and black hair. It also noted that he was missing his left limb.3 
  Edwin had been hit in the leg by a rock at age 14, and eventually had to have it amputated.8 
Cens-19207 Jan 1920  A year and a half later Edwin and Mary were enumerated together on the 1920 census for the Goodson District of Washington County, Virginia. On this record Edwin was reported to be a farmer who owned his own home, although it was mortgaged. Besides his wife Mary (35), four children were also part of the household: Ray (15), Corrine (13), Frances (11) and Alma (5).9 
Cens-193012 Apr 1930 In 1930 Edwin and Mary were again enumerated living in the Goodson District. In the intervening years son Ray had married. He and his wife Anna and their daughter Sarah lived with Edwin and Mary. Edwin was again working for the railroad, now as a railroad depot agent. Ray worked as a telegraph operator. Also at home was daughter Frances, now 21, who was employed as a teacher at a Bible school. Daughter Alma was 12 and attending school herself. Edwin was reported to own his own farm; he also owned a radio [one of the unique questions on the 1930 census].10 
DeathOct 1937 Edwin died the 19th (family record) or 21st (abstracted death register entry) of Oct 1937 in Wallace, Washington County, Virginia.11,12 
Burial He was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.6,4
