Marriage12 Oct 1921 He married Addie Vene Hutton, daughter of Dr. Thomas Dunn Hutton and Lucy E. Preston, on 12 Oct 1921 in Old Glade Spring Church, Washington County, Virginia.5 
  Addie was the niece of John's father's first wife.  
Cens-19307 Apr 1930 The 1930 census recorded John and Addie and their two children, Mary and John, living in Glade Spring, Virginia. John was listed as J. Aker; he was a furniture merchant. Addie stated that she was a clinical urologist. The family owned a home valued at $4,000.6 
Membership  John was a member of the Washington County, Virginia Historical Society. His application stated that his father, J.D. Williams, was a confederate soldier from the Glade Spring District and a member of the State Legislature. He also stated, "The home of my grandfather, William T. Horne, was a stopping place for the stage coaches near Old Glade."7
