Birth1856 Hannah Roberts was born in October 1855 according to the 1900 census although her headstone simply says she was born in 1856.2,3 
Marriage12 Jan 1871 She married John Buchanan Crenshaw, son of George Sanders Crenshaw and Margaret Wilson Buchanan, on 12 Jan 1871 in Smyth County, Virginia.4 
Migration  At some point in the early years of their marriage John and Hannah moved one county west, settling in the Glade Spring district of Washington County. 
Cens-188025 Jun 1880  There they were enumerated in 1880 with Margaret 6 and Fannie 1.5 
Cens-190019 Jun 1900 Twenty years later the census taker found them back in Smyth County, farming in the Rich Valley District. The census record states that Hannah was the mother of 7 children, but that only 4 were living. The only child still living at home was 11 year old Sally. However, the household also includedHannah's father, William Roberts (77, widowed), her brother Edward Roberts (49, single) and sister Maggie (36, single). Several other Roberts households were neighbors.2 
Cens-191030 Apr 1910 By 1910 John and Hannah were back in Washington County, this time in the Saltville district. John was 60 years old, had been married for 39 years, and owned his own farm, which was not mortgaged. Hannah was 58 and had also been married for 39 years. The record again stated that she was the mother of 7 children, of whom 4 were living. One of these children, 22 year old Sallie, was enumerated in the household, as was her husband Trigg Buskill. A lodger, 10 year old Claud Ruth was also recorded. The family was living on the Saltville Road. Harve Crenshaw [their son] and his wife Minnie were also enumerated on the Saltville Road.6 
Cens-19208 Jan 1920  In 1920 John and Hannah's family consisted of themselves and Ben Roberts, Hannah's brother.7 
Widowed19 Jan 1929 John died on 19 Jan 1929. 
Cens-19304 Apr 1930  The following year Hannah was enumerated at age 75 living in the household of her son Harve and his wife Minnie in the Saltville District.8 
  Harve was the only one of John and Hannah's 4 surviving children to remain in southwest Virginia. Margaret and George (Humphrey) migrated west to Nebraska and then Idaho, Fannie and Thomas (Walker) settled in Indiana, and Sallie and Trigg (Buskell) moved to Knox County, Tennessee. 
Death1940 Hannah died in 1940 in Washington County, Virginia.3,9 
Burial She was buried at Smyth Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3
