Cens-190018 Jun 1900 Not long after their marriage Fannie and Thomas were enumerated living in the Rich Valley district of Smyth County, Virginia. Thomas was working as a day laborer.3 
Cens-19103 May 1910 Ten years later they were recorded in the Saltville precinct of neighboring Washington County. Thomas owned his own home, although it was mortgaged, and worked as a laborer at the stone quarry. The census reported that Fannie was the mother of 3 children, all of whom were living. They were enumerated as: Olivene (9), Paul (5) and John (2). Thomas's brother Fred was also living with the family.5 
Migration By spring of 1930 Fannie and Thomas had left Virginia and moved to Indiana. 
Cens-19308 Apr 1930 They were recorded in Knox County in 1930. The household consisted of Thomas (55, rents home, owns radio, works as a loader at coal mine), Fannie (51) and their two sons, Paul and John. Paul (24) was employed as an auto mechanic; John (22) also worked as a loader at the coal mine.1
