He appears consistently on company rosters until the summer and early fall of 1863 when he was noted to be sick in the hospital. William returned to the company later that fall but was captured at Mechanicsville, Virginia on May 12, 1864 [during the Battle of Meadow Bridge/Battle of Richmond Heights]. Research Comment:

William Hall and Mary Duff appear to have been the parents of at least 6 children. Ellen and Jeremiah were identified via Washington Co. birth or death records and were enumerated with their parents in 1860. Jeremiah died from diphtheria in 1865. Ellen may also have died young as she was not mentioned in William's 1888 will. Three sons, George, William and Dixon, are identified as William and Mary's children by various records. William's will also mentions a daughter Flora. Since she was not living with William and his second wife in 1880 it is presumed she was also a daughter of William and Mary Duff, probably born after the 1860 census. I have not located William Hall and Mary (Duff) Hall in 1870.
