  Although William's entry in the couple's marriage record stated he was single, he was a widower with children. 
Cens-18801880  The year after they married, William and Mary were enumerated on their farm in the Kinderhook District of Washington County. The household included William's 3 surviving sons from his first marriage. They were recorded as George (19), William (16) and Dixon (11).5 
1881  Mary and William's first child was probably a daughter Martha who died of diphterhia on Oct. 13, 1887 at age 6.6 
Widowed  William died in July 1888. 
  Mary and her two youngest children, Charles and Margaret, then made their home with Mary's brother Mathew Edmondson in the Abingdon District of Washington County. Mary's widowed brother Samuel, as well as her unmarried sister Hettie, lived with Mathew as well. By 1910 the household consisted of Mathew and Mary, and Mary's son Charles as Hettie died in 1903 and Samuel died in 1907. Mary's daughter Margaret married Thomas Caldwell in 1906.3,7 
Death10 Feb 1920 Mary died on 10 Feb 1920 in Washington County, Virginia, at age 73.2 
Burial She was buried at Bethel Cemetery in Washington County.2
