Marriage29 Jan 1857 She married first Lilburn Logan Hutton, son of Samuel C. Hutton, on 29 Jan 1857 in Washington County, Virginia.6 
Cens-187029 Aug 1870  Following the war Lilburn and Mary Catherine lived in St. Clair township in in Smyth County, Virginia, where they were enumerated in August 1870 with William J. (10), Nancy R.E. (8), Sarah E.J. (5), Samuel J. (3) and Caleb J. (5/12).7 
ChildDeath  Their first child, a daughter recorded in the Washington Co. Birth records only as "J", appears to have died before 1860. And daughter Mary, born in 1859, died from diphtheria in Jan. 1864. 
Cens-18804 Jun 1880  The 1880 census for St. Clair District provides additional information about the family. Lilburn (51) was employed as a laborer; he could not read or write. Mary (44) was able to do both. However the 2 oldest children still at home, William (19) and Nannie R. (17) also could not read or write. The younger children, Josie E. (14), Sam J. (12), Caleb J. (10) and Robert (8), all attended school.8 
  Mary Catherine's 1900 enumeration stated she was the mother of 10 children, 5 of whom were living in 1900. Hence there is an additional child who died young in addition to the names listed below.9 
Widowed10 Apr 1882  Mary was probably widowed on April 10th, 1882, although years later she stated that Lilburn died on March 15th, 1881.10 
Marriage7 Oct 1886 She married second David M. Talbert, son of Charles Talbert and Elizabeth McReynolds, on 7 Oct 1886 in Washington County, Virginia.11 
  David was a 70 year old widower. 
Widowedbefore Jun 1900  Mary was widowed a second time before June 1900 at which time she was recorded in the household of her son-in-law H.M. [Hiram] Hutton.9 
Milit-Pens7 Jan 1909  Mary applied for a widow's pension in early 1909 using the surname Hutton. She stated that Lilburn's death was due to his having contracted scrofula [a form of tuberculosis] during the Civil War. She also stated she had not remarried after Lilburn's death. In the spring of 1909 the Circuit Ct. of Smyth Co. certified the application which was signed by Judge F.B. Hutton.10 
Death18 Nov 1912 Mary died on 18 Nov 1912 in Washington County.12 
Burial She was buried in Saltville, Virginia.12
