Birth23 Jul 1898 Mathew Robert Ryburn was born on 23 Jul 1898 in Virginia.1,2 
Childhood Mathew was probably born in Smyth County, where his family was living in 1900, two years after his birth.3 
Migration  However sometime before 1910 the family moved to San Joaquin County, California, where they were enumerated on both the 1910 and 1920 federal census farming in Douglas Township.4 
Education  "Bob" as he was known by his friends, attended the local schools in Linden (San Joaquin County) and graduated from Stockton High School|.5 
Marriage3 Aug 1929 He married Maude Bernette Coburn on 3 Aug 1929.1 
  The couple met when Mathew traveled to Utah to purchase cattle.5  
Cens-193021 Apr 1930 After their marriage Mathew and Maude lived in the town of Linden where they operated a meat market. They also provided a home for Maude's brother Hugh Coburn who worked in the market as a meat cutter. Living a few doors away was Maude (Cox) Harrison, Mathew's widowed second cousin.6 
Children  Mathew and Maude did not have children.1 
  Mathew was very involved in the local community. He served as state director of the California Cattlemen's Association, director of the San Joaquin County fair and helped found the Linden-Peters Chamber of Commerce. Local residents referred to him as "Mr. Linden" in honor of his more than 50 years of service (see obituary below).5 
Death29 Apr 1976 Mathew died on 29 Apr 1976 in San Joaquin County, California, at age 77.2 
Burial3 May 1976 He was buried on 3 May 1976 at Linden Cemetery.5
