Cens-186016 Jul 1860 John and Elizabeth were newlyweds when they were recorded together on the 1860 census for Washington County, Virginia. They were living near John's mother and his brothers.5 
Cens-18708 Oct 1870  During the 1860s Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter who died young. The 1870 census suggests that they may have also had a son born about 1866, however he does not seem to appear on later census records.6 
Death18 Mar 1873 John died on 18 Mar 1873 in Washington County, Virginia, at age 43.4,2 
Burial He was buried at Sinking Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.4 
Probate Recd8 Mar 1876 John died in 1873 without leaving a will. However, a settlement record presented in court by his brother, David Campbell, who served as administrator, listed payments of $78.50 to the widow, E.V. Campbell, $40 to Ann Campbell and $168 to Dr. E.M. Campbell. Other lesser payments included $34 to the administrator "for his trouble."7
