b. circa 1843
BirthCirca | circa 1843 | Robert W. Worley was born in Virginia circa 1843.2 |
Childhood | | Robert spent his childhood in in Washington County, Virginia. His mother died when he was about 17 and his father died when Robert was about 19. |
| 1862 | Robert is not listed on the 1862 guardianship papers filed after his father's death although his older brother Beattie R. is. Neither is Robert listed on the 1867 distribution of his father's estate (which references payments made as far back as 1862). |
Military | | A Robert Worley was listed as a private in Co. G, 60th Infantry, 4th Brigade, Loyd Division of the Confederate Army. A Ryburn Worley was listed in the same company.4 |
| | There were many Worley families in Washington County circa 1860, several with sons named Robert. However, the others were much too young to have participated in the Civil War. If this military record is for Robert, son of George and Amanda, it appears he may have died in the earliest days of the fighting. Besides not appearing on the 1862/1867 records, he has not been located on the 1870 census. It is certainly also possible that the Robert Worley in the military record was a completely different person. Whatever the case, Robert, son of George and Amanda appears on the 1860 census but not on later records. |
