Birth27 Dec 1856 Madison Monroe Ritchie was born on 27 Dec 1856 in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Marriage He married first Miranda Ann Watson.4 
  Miranda was already the mother of 3 daughters: Nellie, Lucy and Millie. Madison became their adoptive father. It does not appear that Madison and Miranda had children of their own before Miranda's death in 1895. She was buried in the Shady Valley graveyard in Johnson Co., Tennessee.4,5 
  I have not located Madison's residence at the time of the 1900 census. However Nellie, Millie and Lucy lived in Johnson Co., Tennessee with Lee Watson.6 [believed to be Miranda's brother] 
Marriage He married second Nancy C. Wampler. 
  Madison was in his early 40s; Nancy was about 15.  
Cens-1910Apr 1910  Following their marriage Madison and Nancy lived for a time in Johnson County.7 
Cens-192028 Jan 1920  However by 1920 they had moved north across the state line to farm land in the Holston district of Washington County, Virginia.8 
  Madison and Nancy raised 12 children together. The youngest was born in June 1923. 
Will20 May 1924  Madison wrote his will in the spring of 1924. He remembered each of his adopted daughters (Mrs. Lucy A. Brooks, Mrs. Millie B. Blevins and Mrs. Nellie M. Hines) with $50. The remainder of his estate was left to his wife Nancy with son Ben Ritchie as executor.9 
Death29 Nov 1924 Madison died on 29 Nov 1924 in Damascus, Washington County, Virginia, at age 67.3,10 
Burial He was buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.10
