Birth26 Mar 1852 James A.P. Logan was born in Washington County, Virginia, probably on 26 Mar 1852. His headstone apparently says he was born 26 Mar 1854. However, James' 1900 census reports his year of birth as 1852 which is consistent with his age in 1860 (9), 1880 (28), and 1900 (48). James' sister Dorcas Ann has a headstone stating she was born in 1852 yet her census records and marriage license suggest she was born in 1853. Guardianship and court records created in the mid 1850s consistently list Dorcus Ann as the last child in the family rather than James.4,5,6,7,8,3
Childhood  James' father died in 1853 followed by his mother in 1859. The 1860 census found James and his older brother Robert living with their mother's father, Robert Perdue.5
Marriage12 Oct 1871 He married Nannie C. Keller, daughter of George Keller, on 12 Oct 1871 in Washington County, Virginia.1

WidowedJan 1894  Nannie died in Jan. 1894.
Cens-19007 Jun 1900  Six years later James was recorded again. He was 48 years old and worked as a day laborer. His 4 children lived at home and included daughters Sallie (25) and M. Virginia [Mary, 23] both of whom worked as seamstresses. James' 13 year old son Henry worked as a delivery boy while his 11 year old son attended school.7
