Birth22 Jul 1876 James Moffett Shearer was born on 22 Jul 1876 in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa.2,3 
Migration James migrated from Iowa to Kansas with his father and mother when he was three years of age.2 
Moth-Death20 Mar 1880  James was just shy of 4 years old when his mother died a few days after giving birth to James's younger sister. 
Marriage16 Aug 1897 He married Mabel Arletta Coryea Peugh on 16 Aug 1897 in Phillips County, Kansas.4 
6 Apr 1904  On April 6th 1904 Mabel gave birth to the couple's first child, a son they named Floyd. However the infant did not survive and Mabel died a few hours later as well. 
Cens-191022 Apr 1910  James remained in Logan where he worked as a stock broker. His sister Daisy, who worked in a milinary store, lived with him.5 
Marriage12 Jul 1911 He married Clara Catherine Alderson on 12 Jul 1911 in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa.6 
Cens-19201920  James and Clara settled in Logan where they had a son and a daughter. The 1920 census noted that James was not employed. The family lived next door to James's father and stepmother.7 
Membership James was a member of the Odd Fellows for many years and received every honor the local lodge was able to bestow.2 
Death28 Feb 1922 James died on 28 Feb 1922 at Logan, Kansas of pneumonia. He had been in ill health for about seven years.2,3 
Illness  James suffered from Bright's Disease.8 
Burial He was buried in Logan, Phillips County, Kansas.3 
  In the years following James's death Clara returned to Wappelo Co., Iowa [her residence at the time of her marriage to James]. In 1930 she was enumerated renting a home for $20 a month at 313 N. Van Buren Ave. in Ottumwa with her 2 children and her mother. Clara was employed as a saleslady in a dry goods store.9
