Birth-Calccirca 15 Jan 1815 Washington Hutton was born in Virginia circa 15 Jan 1815 based on his age at death as recorded on his headstone.3,4
Fath-Death1835  Washington's father died in 1835. Despite his young age, Washington (who was about 21) was left in charge of the family. Dickson Hutton's will charged Washington with keeping the family intact and educating and caring for his younger siblings. Washington and his brother William were given their father's land but required to provide a cow, 6 head of sheep and a specific amount of cash to each of their 3 sisters/half-sisters.5
Marriage Washington married Jane Bishop, daughter of William Bishop and Susannah Hutton.6
The were first cousins, once removed.
Migration  Jane's parents left Virginia prior to 1840 and settled in Boone Co., Indiana. It appears Washington and Jane either accompanied or followed them, settling briefly in neighboring Marion County.7
Land-Sell29 Sep 1841  By the fall of 1841 Washington and Jane had settled in Boone County as well. On Sept. 29th they sold Arthur Hutton their interest in the Virginia land Dickson Hutton left Washington in his will.8
Land-Sell2 Oct 1841  A few days later they sold their 1/8th interest in another tract of land in Washington County, Virginia to John and Thomas McCrady.9 [McCready]
Cens-185030 Sep 1850  In the early fall of 1850 Washington and Jane were enumerated farming in Boone Co. on the first federal census to enumerate all members of a household. Washington owned land worth $1,500; he was 36. Jane was 33. Also listed were William (14), John D. (7), Sarah J. (5), Eliza A. (3) and James W. (1/12).4
The 1840 census suggests another son had been born between William and John.
Cens-Sum  Later census entries suggest Washington and Jane added 2 additional sons to the family following 1850: Francis (abt 1860) and Hugh Mansfield (abt 1863). The 1880 census identifies Mansfield, then 17, as Washington's son.10,11,12
Death8 Dec 1888 Washington died on 8 Dec 1888.3
Burial He was buried at Hutton Memorial Cemetery in Boone County, Indiana.3
