Abraham H. Snodgrass1

b. between 1796 and 1799
FatherJoseph Snodgrass d. bet Oct 1827 - Mar 1828
MotherAnn Hutton b. say 1766
Birthbetween 1796 and 1799 Abraham H. Snodgrass was born between 1796 and 1799 in Virginia.2,3
Marriage28 Jan 1819 He married Ann Eakin, daughter of William Eakin, on 28 Jan 1819 in Washington County, Virginia.4
Cens-18201820  Abraham was enumerated as the head of a Washington County household in 1820 that included 1 male under 10 and a male and female age 16-26.5
The male probably represented a son Joseph born to Abraham and Ann about 1820. Ann died sometime after the 1820 census.
Marriage6 Jul 1823 He married second Rachel Dickson, daughter of William Dickson, on 6 Jul 1823 in Washington County.6
Rachel gave birth to two daughters before she too died young.
Marriage16 Aug 1827 He married third Nancy Montgomery, daughter of Richard Montgomery and Elizabeth McCall, on 16 Aug 1827 in Washington County.7
Cens-18301830  Abraham's 1830 census entry, recorded 2 1/2 years after his marriage to Nancy, suggests the presence of children from his earlier marriages. The household included 1 male under 5 [?], 1 male 5-9 [Joseph], 1 male 30-40 [Abraham], 1 female under 5 [Rachel], 1 female 5-10 [Catherine], ["1" changed to "0" female 20-30] and 1 female 30-40 [Nancy]. The unidentified male may indicate a son born to Abraham and Nancy.8
Land-Sell25 Oct 1830  In Oct. 1830 Abraham and Nancy sold 53 acres to Moore Robinson for $250. This represented the land Abraham's father left him in his will.9
Migration  This sale may have been in advance of the family's move to Indiana. Abraham's brother William migrated to Owen County, Indiana in 1831.10
Cens-18401840  Abraham and Nancy also settled in Owen County. There Abraham was enumerated as the head of a household in Montgomery Township in 1840. The census entry again recorded older children as well as 2 children possibly born to Abraham and Nancy: 1 male under 5 [?]; 1 male 15-19 [Joseph from William's #1 marriage]; 1 male 40-49 [Abram]; 1 female 5-9 [Abram and Nancy's daughter Elisabeth]; 1 female 10-15 [Rachel from Abraham's #2 marr]; 1 female 15-19 [Catherine from Abraham's #2 marr] and 1 female 40-49.11 [Nancy]
Cens-18506 Sep 1850  Abraham and Nancy moved farther north before 1850, settling in Harrison township, Pulaski County, Indiana. The 1850 census did not record any children in their household, but 29 year old Joseph Snodgrass (b. Virginia) was enumerated in the adjacent household.2
Joseph is believed to have been the son of Abraham Snodgrass and his first wife, Ann Eakin.12
Land-Sell10 Aug 1850  In August 1850, while living in Pulaski Co., Abraham and Nancy sold Richard Montgomery their interest in a tract of land that had belonged to Richard and Henry Montgomery in Washington Co., Virginia. Henry was Nancy's deceased brother.1
Nancy died within the following year or two. Court records created in the 1870s in Washington Co., Virginia clarify that at the time of her death she left one living heir, a daughter Elisabeth Ann Snodgrass.13
Marriage2 Jan 1854 Abraham married fourth Emaline Jackson on 2 Jan 1854 in Pulaski County, Indiana.14
Cens-18609 Jun 1860  They lived in Putnam Co., Indiana (as did Abraham's brother Joseph Snodgrass). Emaline was considerably younger than Abraham who was 64 in 1860. Emaline was 24. The 1860 census suggests they had two sons together.3
