Birth1810 Richard Wesley Butt was born in 1810.3 
Name Other  Richard was often known by his middle name. 
Marriage25 Feb 1836 He married Eliza Elizabeth Maiden, daughter of John Maiden and Susanna Landis, on 25 Feb 1836 in Botetourt County, Virginia.4 
  The following year Wesley's sister Rebecca would marry Eliza's brother William. 
Cens-18401840  Four years after their marriage "Westley" Butt was enumerated as the head of a family in Botetourt County. Besides an adult male and an adult female, the census recorded 2 children under 5 (a male and a female).5 
Migration Richard and Eliza migrated further south to Washington County, probably in the early 1840s. Eliza's parents and all but 1 of her siblings made the move in 1843. Eliza and Wesley settled on land in the southern part of the county whereas her parents settled on land near present day Shortsville (northeast of Abingdon).4,6 
DeathFeb 1847 Richard died in Feb 1847.7
