Ward23 Apr 1849  Following their father's death, the Washington County, Virginia Court appointed William L. Maiden guardian of William and his siblings.3 
Marriage3 Nov 1859 He married Charity Miranda Miller, daughter of Jacob Miller and Isabella W. Caldwell, on 3 Nov 1859 in Washington County. Charity was known as Miranda.6 
Cens-188015 Jun 1880 All of William and Miranda's children were born in Washington County, Virginia, however some time prior to 1880 the family moved west, settling in Washington County, Nebraska. There John and Miranda were enumerated in the summer of 1880 with their 7 children.7 
Widowed1894  William was widowed when Miranda died in 1894.8 
Cens-190015 Jun 1900  Three of the children were still at home with William in 1900. Son Willis helped on the farm and daughter Mary managed the household while son Franklin taught school.9 
Death17 Feb 1926 William died on 17 Feb 1926 in Tilden, Antelope County, Nebraska, at age 87.5 
  Several of William and Miranda's children moved farther west, including daughter Isabella who married Joseph Gugin in 1881 and moved to Umatilla County, Oregon about 1889. Sons James and Fletcher also moved to Oregon. William and his children added an "s" to the end of the family name.5
