MotherIrene Mae Foster3 b. 26 Jan 1862, d. 16 Jan 1893
Birth27 Jan 1882 Stuart Lafayette Maiden was born on 27 Jan 1882 in Washington County, Virginia.4,1,5
Marriage1903 He married Laura Blanche Caldwell, daughter of Robert Franklin Caldwell and Nannie L. Thompson, in 1903.3,5
They were second cousins who grew up in the same neighborhood.
Cens-191018 Apr 1910  Following their marriage Stuart (Stewart) and Blanche lived adjacent to her parents on Maiden Creek Road. Although Stuart was listed as the head of a household in 1910 he was not assigned a new household number but was listed under the household number for James F. Rector.6
James Rector's wife was Lizzie Dunn. I do not know if there was a relationship between the Rectors or Dunns and the Caldwell, Thompsons or Maiden families. In 1920 James Rector was again enumerated adjacent to Stewart and Blanche Maiden. This time Stewart and Blanche appeared to be members of Robert Caldwell's household (Blanche's father) but the enumerator skipped a household number and it is difficult to clarify the situation. Lizzie (Dunn) Rector died in 1917 but James apparently married another woman named Lizzie, with whom he was listed in 1920.
Milit-Reg12 Sep 1918 On 12 Sep 1918 Stuart registered for the World War I draft in Washington County, Virginia. The form stated that Stuart was a farmer and described him as short and stout with blue eyes and dark hair.1
Cens-19203 Jan 1920  In 1920 Stuart (Stewart) and Blanche (Laurie B.) were farming along Maiden Creek Rd. with their 8 year old daughter Clytie (Clite V.).7
Death24 Mar 1938 Stuart died on 24 Mar 1938 in Washington County at age 56.4,5
Burial He was buried at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.4
