Marriagecirca 1882 He married Nannie L. Thompson, daughter of James H. Thompson and Harriet J. Dutton, circa 1882.5 
Cens-Sum  Robert and Nannie spent their married life farming in the Saltville District of Washington County. The 1910 census clarified the location as Maiden Creek Rd, the general location of the land settled by Robert's grandfather, John Maiden in the 1840s. Various census records enumerate Robert's cousins, aunts and uncles living in the same area.

Robert and Nannie had 8 children, the first 7 of whom were girls. Robert Jr. was born in 1904. An infant daughter was born and died on Christmas Day in 1887 and was buried at Maiden Cemetery.6,7 
WidowedJul 1919  Nannie died in 1919 and was buried in the same cemetery. 
Cens-19203 Jan 1920  The 1920 census enumerated Robert at age 62 living with Robert Jr. and also with Stewart and Laurie Maiden [Robert's dau Laura Blanche and her husband] and their daughter Clite [Clytie]. Robert Sr. was no longer farming but was employed as a dry goods merchant.8 
Death30 Dec 1928 Robert died on 30 Dec 1928 at age 71.3 
Burial He was buried at Mountain View Baptist Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3
