Rebecca Elizabeth B. Logan1,2

b. 27 April 1828, d. 8 June 1906
Birth27 Apr 1828 Rebecca Elizabeth B. Logan was born on 27 Apr 1828 in Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia.3,4
Rebecca may have been the daughter of James Logan and Eleanor Hutton.5
Marriage She married Daniel Wilson Maiden, son of John Maiden and Susanna Landis.6
Cens-Sum1850  Rebecca and Daniel were enumerated twice in 1850. On July 11th they were recorded as household #12, near Daniel's brothers James and William. Daniel was listed as a 24 year old farmer; Rebecca was 20 and baby John was 6 months. Eighteen days later Daniel was enumerated as household #122. This time he was a 23 year old farmer and Rebecca, enumerated by her middle name of Elizabeth, was 23. Baby John was 1 month old. They were reported as living between Daniel's father and brother Samuel.7,8
Later census records clarify that they settled in the Saltville District of the county where they farmed near other Maiden family members. The 1880 census noted that 8 year old daughter Hester was sick with typhoid fever when the census taker visted the family. Daniel and Rebecca raised a family of 10 children.9,10
Death8 Jun 1906 Rebecca died on 8 Jun 1906 at age 78.3
Burial She was buried at Maiden Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3

Research Comment:

The Washington County birth records include an entry for a child Susan Jane Maiden, born Dec. 26, 1853. No other reference to this daughter Susan has been found. It is possible she was the same person as the daughter Lou J. whose birth has been reported as Feb. or Dec. 1853. No other Daniel and Rebecca Maiden couple were found in the county in 1860.11
Rebecca's daughter Emma died in Missouri in 1916. Emma's son Roy was the informant on her death certificate. He listed Emma's father as Daniel Maiden and her mother as Rebecca Becklodg_. This contradicts the Virginia death entries for Daniel and Rebecca's sons John W. Maiden and James T. Maiden, both of which list Rebecca's maiden name as Logan (Rebecca E.B. Logan on John's entry; Rebecca Logan on James' entry). It also contradicts the research of Sarah (Maiden) Rollins in The Maiden Family of Virginia and Allied Families 1623-1991. It is possible Rebecca's second middle name, which apparently started with a "B" was Becklodge or something similiar.1,2,12

George Maiden was a great-grandson of George Moses Hutton by his first wife, Jane Campbell." [George Maiden was the son of Daniel W. Maiden and Rebecca Elizabeth B. Logan. Hence if Elizabeth was the daughter of James Logan and Eleanor Hutton, Rev. Maiden would have been the great grandson of Moses Hutton and his first wife Jane. Note: I have found no indication that Moses was "George Moses" or that Jane's maiden name was Campbell]
