Sarah (?)1

b. circa 1825
BirthCircacirca 1825 Sarah (?) was born in Virginia circa 1825.1
Marriage She married John Larimer, son of Robert Larimer and Sally McKee.1
Cens-185020 Sep 1850  Sarah and John lived in Washington County, Virginia, where they were recorded in 1850 near William Larimer [John's brother]. John was listed as owning real estate valued at $400; Sarah was indicated as not knowing how to read and write. Also present were: Violet 8, Mary 6, Charity 4 and Hetty, 1 year.1
Widowed9 Jun 1859  John died of consumption in June 1859. Sarah was in her mid 30s at the time. She had given birth to at least 8 children, although 2 daughters died in August 1854 of dysentery. Daughter Violet had married in 1857 at age 15.
Cens-186030 Jul 1860  The year after John's death Sally was enumerated with the 5 children who remained at home. They included Mary (15), Charity (13), Malissa (7), James (5) and Naomi (2).2
Cens-187021 Sep 1870  Ten years later Sarah was again enumerated; this time living adjacent to the family of her daughter Charity who had married Alfonzo Parris in 1868. Daughter Mary Jane, who married John South in 1866 also lived in the neighborhood. Only 15 year old James remained with Sarah.3
James was not the youngest of Sarah's children. The fact that Naomi was not present (she would have been 13) suggests she may have been deceased. Malissa, who would have been about 17, was also not listed. In 1873 Sarah's daughter Mary Jane South and son-in-law John South both died.
Cens-18803 Jun 1880  Sarah then assumed responsibility for the couple's young children. In 1880 Sarah, who still could not read or write, was enumerated with 3 South children: John (12), Ida (9) and Mary J. (6).4
